TRANSCRIPT:

(00:01) What is the key to actually showing up on camera confidently and consistently? I'm excited to share with you my MSR system. So, here's the deal. Between this and you being confident on camera is mindset, skill set, repetition. That is the three-step framework you need to follow.

(00:21) By that I mean first of all you got to start out with your mindset. Until you actually believe that this camera, any camera could help you achieve your goals. Whether it's to make a bigger impact or to grow your business, you will not get better on camera. By the way, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Kim Rittberg. I'm a six-time award-winning marketer.

(00:38) I'm a video coach for self-employed folks, and I help executives and self-employed professionals get confident on camera and grow their impact through video and podcasts. I spent 20 years in media at places like Netflix, People, US Weekly, and Fox, and I'm really excited to share my knowledge with you.

(00:56) So, when we're talking about mindset, we really have to believe that this can grow our impact. And if you don't, you're never going to get better on camera. When you're not bought into it, you're not going to get better. So, I recommend to tap into your motivation. So, start with a sticky note.

(01:10) Really think deeply about why you want to be on camera. We all have a lot of negative voices in our head about why not to be on camera. So to override that, I want you to write down why do you want to be on camera? Right? The things that I hear from my clients that pushes them to not want to be on camera is I might look silly.

(01:29) Am I really an expert? I don't like my voice. I don't like my hair. To override that, you have to have a magnet pulling you. And that magnet can be motivation. So I want you to write down your motivation. Stick that sticky note on your computer, on your wall, on your phone. And when you're questioning, should I do this? Am I an expert? Does my voice sound weird? Really leaning on that motivation.

(01:52) So that's a mindset piece. The next piece is skill set. The truth is it is a skill to be confident on camera. It is a whole genre of studies of jobs. Like remember there's schools of communication. There are people who apply to be TV anchors who work their way for years. So I really dislike when people say I should be good on camera.

(02:14) Why? It's a learned skill. So, the more you understand that there's nothing wrong with you, that you're not confident on camera yet, and you understand that it's a skill you can build, you're gonna get so much closer to being better on camera, right? Just because I have a magnifying glass, it doesn't make me a scientist or an archaeologist, right? Just because we have a phone and a selfie stick does not mean we are a TV anchor.

(02:35) Does not mean we are a content creator. So the more you understand that and you're not so harsh on yourself and you say, "Oh, this is a skill I'm building. Let me tap into let me get a coach. Let me get a media trainer. Let me get an on camera coach to help me with that." You can talk to me, an on camera coach.

(02:53) Anyone anyone who's really really understands how to help you and it helps you to understand that it's skill that you're going to be building. The truth is like when I work with clients, it takes months of work to get better on camera. I do keynotes. I do workshops around the country on stages.

(03:10) I'm always working to be a better speaker, to be a better communicator. It's not one and done. You know, I took one class one time years ago. It's a constant growth process. So, it's understanding that that's a skill. The very last thing is repetition. You cannot go to the gym once, come home, and be like, go to my six-pack. Doesn't happen that way.

(03:30) It's the same with getting better on camera. You have to really put in the repetitions. What does that look like? For each person, it's different. You need to be talking to your camera consistently. And there's different styles of how you want to communicate with your phone or your video or your camera. We can connect. You can drop me a message or drop me a comment if you have any questions, but there's different ways for you to speak on camera.

(03:54) The truth is, you have to consistently talk to your phone to be building that skill set. So, that's the repetition part. If you talk to your phone even once a week, by the end of the month, you'll be on camera four times. If you do it every other day, he'll be on camera like 15 or so times. That's a huge improvement. You're gonna get so much better, so much faster.

(04:13) Oh, that was weird. Anyway, I'm really, really excited for you to be building this, right? Mindset, skill set, repetition. So, I have a free download on how to get better on camera. You can check that out in my link in bio or at kimrittberg.com/tips. And drop in the comments what you're struggling with of being on camera.
